Kathy Daw was born in Pembroke, ON - the youngest of the nine children of Holt and Eva Johnston. She grew up on her family farm near Foresters Falls, ON where she began singing as a child along with her sister Karen.
Following elementary school, Kathy attended Opeongo High School near Cobden, ON and after graduation, enrolled in St. Lawrence College in Kingston, ON - originally to study fashion design, but soon switched her major to graphic design - completing the 3 year program (with honours) as a graphic designer in 1976.
As a child, Kathy took both piano and vocal lessons and sang regularly with her sister Karen at churches, and other special events. Throughout high school and college, Kathy and Karen continued to sing regularly at local functions and were joined by Cheryl Perry around the end of 1972 to form the Johnston Singers. This female trio travelled widely for about 6 years, winning numerous awards from the Canadian Gospel Music Association - as Canada's top female vocal gospel group - and recording 2 albums. They still get together to sing at special "reunion" events.
Kathy met her husband Dave Daw in Pembroke, ON in 1974 at a concert the Johnston Singers performed in, together with Dave's group - the Proverbs. Kathy and Dave were married in 1979. They have 4 children, Jeremy, Justin, Angela and Natasha.
After college, Kathy worked for 5 years in the printing and graphics industry while singing weekends with the Johnson Singers, before joining her husband Dave in 1979 in their recording and custom music manufacturing business, Summit Sound where she is currently a co-owner and the primary graphic designer, as well as product production co-ordinator.
Kathy joined the Proverbs in June of 1979 originally as lead vocalist, later doubling as lead singer and group keyboardist. She has won numerous awards from the Canadian Gospel Muisc Association as Canada's top female gospel vocalist and is also in demand as a motivational speaker and singer for church and women's groups.
Kathy enjoys many types of music as well as singing with the Proverbs and has also sung on many commercial jingles as well as working regularly as a studio background vocalist for other artists. She is a great cook, and devoted wife and mother as well as an accomplished business professional. Kathy has also won many awards for her album cover graphic design work.
Kathy enjoys entertaining family and friends at home and loves gardening (in her spare time).
Kathy especially enjoys traveling and singing in the Proverbs, along with her husband Dave, and youngest daughter Natasha.
